Diploma de Español
Lengua Extranjera
(DELE)
The DELE Spanish Diplomas are official
qualifications certifying the degree of
competence and mastery of the Spanish language,
granted by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of
Ministry of Education of Spain. The DELE has
indefinite validity and international recognition.


The exam is divided in four areas

1. Reading comprehension
2. Listening comprehension
3. Written expression and interaction
4. Oral expression and interaction






DELE exams characteristics

The diferent levels of DELE exams According to the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) six different DELE exams can be taken, spread over seven annual sittings and they must be taken in person at one of the more than 1,000 examination centers around the world. There are two ways to register:
  • Online (only for candidates in Spain): Register on the Instituto Cervantes website.
  • In person (for overseas candidates): The candidate must present the following documentation at the DELE exam center, this centre must be recognised by the Instituto Cervantes (search for my center)
    • Registration form:

    • Original and photocopy of your passport or official identity document with resembling photograph stating the following information: name and surname, nationality and place and date of birth. The data declared by the candidate in the registration application form must correspond to that of the identification document presented.
*If you are taken the exam in a country different than Spain, please check with your examn center. The requirements may vary from country to country.

The registration fee for DELE exams depends on the level and the country in which the registration is made. Each candidate must check the price of the chosen diploma at the DELE exam center of the country where they want to take the tests. (search for my center)

  • The results are published within approximately three months since the exam date.
  • The publication of the grades will be announced by email.
  • Candidates will be ale to see their official results through the Cervantes Institute's student portal.
  • Candidates that achieve a PASS in their DELE exam will receive the corresponding diploma, issued by the Cervantes Institute on behalf of the Ministry of Education of Spain, which will be sent to the exam centre in which the test was taken.

Note: In case of disagreement with the result obtained, candidates can submit a single request for results review through the students portal on the Cervantes Institute's website. There will be an estabilished period to submit any requests.
